Shaolin was an art practiced through the ages; a skill mastered in the heart.
In Shaolin Soccer, it's so much more than a philosophy for six young believers, it's a complete way of life.
But as the world changed around them, and "honor" and "discipline" become forgotten virtues, they all lose their way -- except for one loyal follower, Sing (Stephen Chow).
With the help of a former soccer star, he reunites his old, out of shape, misfit friends, and recruits a young woman with extraordinary kung fu skills. Together, they set out to combine the ancient power of shaolin with the modern game of soccer; and in the process, take the world's most popular sport to the extreme.
Ripper's Notes
Two years ago MEDiAMANiACS brought us this outrageously funny, action-packed, and very fine film, Shaolin Soccer. But they were constrained by the rules to put it on one CD. Later on, a Director's Cut was released with the full version, together with behind-the-scenes of the making of the special effects. The ripper skipped the special effects making-of, and just added back the three extra scenes. The sample includes part of one of them, and the DVD review link explains the extra scenes. This added footage allowed us to go to 2 CDs, a higher resolution, and include the DD 5.1 audio, which is outstanding. The subs were originally the worst kind of "Engrish", and didn't synch with the words, were often on the screen for too short of a time, and were often completely unintelligible. The English has been cleaned up, the subs synched with the voices and extended so that there's actually enough time to read them.
