Synopsis / Plot:
The Human Condition (Ningen no joken) is a Japanese epic film trilogy made between 1959 and 1961.
[...]
The trilogy follows the life of Kaji, a Japanese pacifist and socialist, as he tries to survive in the fascist and oppressive world of WWII-era Japan. The character development of Kaji through the three films is considered by many to be inspirational.
[...]
In the second film, Road to Eternity (1959), Kaji, having lost his exemption from military service by protecting Chinese prisoners from unjust punishment, has now been conscripted into the Japanese Kwantung Army.
Despite his anti-militarism, Kaji excels in his training and tries to implement his ideals in his dealings with other soldiers in the face of the prevailing brutality.
The film ends with the Soviet army's victorious onslaught.
[...]
Each film is divided into two parts. Altogether, the trilogy is nine hours and forty-seven minutes long, not including intermissions.
The British film critic David Shipman described the trilogy in his 1983 book, The Story of Cinema, as "unquestionably the greatest film ever made."

Notes:
-1- This instalment - in which Kaji (conscientious objector and reluctant army recruit) experiences how foot-soldiers and officers alike were brutalised - was released in 1961.
-2- Sorry, no sweet Japanese schoolgirls in sailor suits get ravished by several battalions of woman-starved troops; maybe if they make a sequel...
-3- Kobayashi based much of The Human Condition on his own experiences: eight months after entering Shochiku’s Ofuna studio as an assistant director, he was drafted in January 1942 and by April had arrived in Harbin, Manchuria. As Audie Bock explains in her book Japanese Film Directors, Kobayashi expressed “his opposition to the cruelty of the Imperial Japanese Army system by refusing to rise above the rank of private, which he remained for the duration of his military service.”
About his pacifist hero, Kobayashi said: “I am Kaji in the film.”

-5- I think the original ripper was damascus. Props to him.
The Holly Martens rips are also very good, if you can still find them (I have those too).
-6- The final part of the trilogy will be uploaded next.
-7- I won't be reseeding this trilogy; if you need seeding help when the torrent dies, please ask one of the downloaders. Thanks.
